Sobre la canción

"Twist and Shout" es una canción escrita por Phil Medley y Bert Russell. Fue titulada originalmente como «Shake It Up, Baby» y grabada por los Top Notes y luego versionada por The Isley Brothers. La versión más conocida es la grabada por The Beatles, con John Lennon en la voz principal, y que fue lanzada en su primer álbum Please Please Me. La canción fue además interpretada por The Mamas & the Papas en su álbum Deliver (1967), y por The Tremeloes. Más adelante, Chaka Demus and Pliers alcanzaron el primer puesto de las listas del Reino Unido con su versión de enero de 1994.

El patrón de su armonía, melodía y ritmo estaban inspirados en las progresiones armónicas de las canciones latinas, cuyo exponente más reinvindicativo fueron los acordes de la canción tradicional mexicana «La bamba» que había popularizado en Estados Unidos el cantante Ritchie Valens en 1959.
